The Dhaka-Chattogram National Highway links Dhaka and Chattogram, the administrative and commercial capitals of Bangladesh. Projects like the Mireshwarai Export Processing Zone and Bangabandhu tunnel have increased traffic. The government has begun several development projects for the highway, which runs from Dhaka, crosses three major rivers, and enters Chattogram. Currently, the road from Dhaka to Kachpur is 8 lanes, and from Kachpur to Chattogram is 4 lanes. As freight traffic grows, RHD is upgrading the 231km highway to a 6-lane (8 lanes in urban areas) dual carriageway with separate service lanes, supported by an ADB loan.
