Mongla Port, Bangladesh’s second largest port, plays a key role in international trade. Located at the confluence of the Pussur River and Mongla Nulla, 71 nautical miles from the Bay of Bengal and 45 km south of Khulna, it currently accommodates 35 ships at a time with 6 operational jetties and plans for 2 more dedicated container jetties. The port handles 10 million tons of cargo, 100,000 TEUs, and 1,500 cars annually. With increasing development and better connectivity due to the Padma Bridge, there’s a demand for upgrading the port. A project named ‘Upgradation of Mongla Port’ aims to meet these needs efficiently. The objective is to conduct survey and investigation works at Pussur River and Mongla Port for planning and design purposes.
